Im new here and currently putting the x2 together. Can someone hlp me locate the VESC tool app that mentioned in the video? I can NOT locate the luna edition only the pay version.

VESC tool update from March 12 breaks the compatibility with Luna X2 controller.

I was still able to update to latest FW version and change the settings in February. I tried changing some setting again yesterday but now the app connects in "limited mode" and gives the "This version is not fully compatible with the FW version on the bike but should work" warning. However, the custom UI does not load when selected, and none of the tabs work (bike cfg, Firmware etc.); I only get the default VESC tool home screen. My bike has the latest Luna FW version 6 from Nov 2022.

Please let me know how to fix this so I can change the bike configuration again?

Quick question. I have a 2021 X1 with the Ludicrous and silent drive options. I'm wondering if it would be worth the expense to install a V2 controller? Also, is the silent drive compatible with the V2 controller?

Yes, it is compatible. Whether it is worth it is very subjective so it is hard to say but between the smartphone app, the field weakening, the programmability and ability to go with higher voltage batteries, it definitely has a lot going for it.

Yes - will be a bit hard to say based on how you ride, what firmware you have now, what attributes you put a premium on, etc.

But... I have what would probably be called a "2020 X1" with 14.5 firmware on the controller. It always felt a bit 'out of step' to me. I'd push on the pedals...nothing for half a rotation or so. I'd stop pedaling and it would keep going for half a rotation or so. PAS 1 and 2 would hardly do anything, PAS 3 would 'wake up' and provide great....almost too much power and PAS 4 and 5 weren't much different than 3. But the whole show would do a hard cut off at about 20 mph regardless of the number set in the controller.

I put in the V2 controller and it is virtually telepathic. I start to pedal, it starts to provide power. I stop for a split second to change gears, it stops. The levels seem very linear, you can sort of think of the +/- button as a front deraileur Plus, if you don't like any setting, they are easily changed in the software.

I considered trying to find a $120 BESST and use some different firmware. But for the price difference, it was a pretty easy choice to get the V2 controller for me.

As for the silent gear. Sure it is a tough PEEK engineering plastic, but pumping 2500W of power/torque through it... I don't know. Maye if you're careful. But at some point you're going to stab the power and hear a 'snap' and that will be the end of your plastic gear. I took my motor apart for a good cleaning/regreasing before installing the V2 and found the motor pinion already had heavy wear at the base of the gear. I suspect that long, noodly pinion is twisting up against the gear and deflecting because it is only supported on the motor side. That would put a much higher load on the side of the gear near the motor and make for even greater chance of failure. ...just my .02
