I have seen on the web complete electric bike. it's has a battery and you pedal a generator. It didn't have great reviews. I would think the energy loss would be prohibitive.

That wouldn't work because the BBSHD uses an internal freewheel. It freewheels when you pedal, so it can't turn the motor to generate electricity .

Interesting idea rcbike, I'm sure there are some electrical gurus out there who could accomplish this task. Unfortunately I'm currently not the man for that particular task lol.

My Exkate electric skateboard has regenerative braking and it would be nice if the BBSHD had some kind of regenerative braking. But what I think would be better is to have the option to put the pedal assist in "zero" mode and when you pedal you can recharge the battery like a dynamo.

Those two wires are for adding a switch so you can have a reverse, and I have seen some cargo trikes use that feature with a direct drive hubmotor...

    About Regenerative Braking

I was recently tinkering around with my controller and found two white wires, one with a male end the other with female. Naturally had to plug the male into the female, and when I powered up the bike tried to take off in REVERSE!?! so, is this indicative of a regen capable controller? ( Hoping the answer is yes). And if so, how do I utilize this feature? Still running the 1000 watt Amazon bought rear hub ( AOSOM was the name of the kit). After hastily unplugging the wires and taking off, seemed to also have more responsive throttle and a little more power as well on two subsequent rides since. Can anyone shed some light on this mystery? Thanks in advance.
