If you get a display extension cable (https://lunacycle.com/bafang-display-extension-cable/), cut off the end, do some soldering and wrap it up with heat shrink...

I bought a programmer last year but I'll be danged if I can't find it. I just finished another build and desperately wanted to load Karls el file so I resorted to this. I would not recommend it but it worked. I had some cheap speaker wire so I used a small safety pin and reamed out the cut off ends and slipped them over the male pins.1 Photo

Super easy, just make sure it's a decent USB cable. Rated for the Windows version you will use.

I bought one.... But I'd build one without hesitation if they were out-of-stock...
I've been using some very inexpensive (~$5?) ones that I've not needed drivers for (windows recognized them without any help). I'll check if I can find a link...

You can create you own cable but even the most experienced sat it's not worth it. Here's a link to a well regarded BBSxx blogger who in discussing the pros and cons of build versus buy provides links to how to build.

I dunno - I think it's pretty easy... OTOH I work with these little USB/UART converters quite often and the worst part always seems to be getting RX and TX straight (if you just plain guess you will get them right <25% of the time and if you noodle it more like <10% of the time - thank you Mr. Murphy ;-} ) and the US drivers are way too often a big pain...
