    KHS 500 Deluxe?

Has anyone recently purchased this bike ? Is the 40t front chain ring small enough for mostly off-road use?

    I have a KHS500 with bbshd , and a 42 front chainring...
since the rear cassette goes 11 to 50 , it can practically climb a wall in the lowest gear !!
So I guess it would depend alot on your cassette .

I have a buddy that just bought one but it didn't come with 11-50t cassette, his is 11-42t if I remember right... I think it could use a slightly smaller chain ring or a 11-46t cassette (easy enough)... I'm running a 42t with an 11-46t on a very similar bike and its enough to go up anything I'm willing to try although if I were to do a ton of really steep I'd put on a smaller ring... I ran it with 39t into a 11-42t like his is and it was about the same in first as what I've got now

If I pedal at 40rpm in first I'm going about 3mph... like I say, if I were to do tons of steep I'd like to be pedaling a bit faster at a slightly lower speed... I have another 130bcd adapter and looking to get a 40t or even a 38t to swap just for that
