Got to ride a Levo yesterday

I had to go to the LBS when I could not get a flat tire off my fatbike. I quit trying when I had the thought that maybe there was something different about these tires and I didn't want to damage the wheel by getting too irritated with it.... The pro shop STILL had a heck of a time getting it off, finally taking the brake disc off so they (2 guys) could really romp on it. In the meantime, the shop owner, a long time friend, offered me a ride on a brand new Levo, the name I remember, not the model. A FS mountain bike, my first time on one. It was an impressive piece of slick engineering, though I immediately missed the throttle! I rode it a few blocks, no chance for taking it out on a trail, jumped a few curbs anyway. IF this was my first experience with an e bike, I would have been blown away. As it was, the top speed of 20 was not much fun, nor the $5500.00 price tag.

I certainly didn't even consider spending that kind of money for one, not with what I'm riding having more battery and power at half the price or less. Kind of like going to a new car dealer and looking at the '17 models, fun and impressive, but not for me. On my way out the door with the fixed tire and the knowledge how to handle it myself next time, the owners son confided to me that his Dad had his own Levo he was riding now, and he loved it. This was huge news, as the owner is a long time hard core biker, and I was thinking he probably looked down on e bikers, not so! He has also no doubt realized the potential business increase in selling them.

Levo, a real nice bike, if you have the dough and don't want to build your own. But my BBSHD fattie would smoke it going up a trail, though it would win going down, with that great suspension.

Ouch, 5500 in one swing is a lot of dough....

My LBS guy just encouraged me to take a spin around the block on a Specialized Turbo. It has a direct drive hub with no throttle. I had the same thought as you, how could any first timer resist! The integration of electric power with human was seamless. Totally silent except for the clicking of the freewheel and the squealing of the disc brakes.

In my LBS nobody will let me get close to the eBikes, let alone take one for a ride... you guys must live in nicer places then...

Before going with Luna I went to a local ebike store and cruised every model they had. All were quiet and well built, but expensive and lacking any kind of punch. DIY kits are a world apart.

The new car versus the hotrod thing. One, amazing, expensive and maybe shallow in comparison, purchased character. The other, a more complicated relationship, storied with character, richly rewarding work of art of a different kind and cheap, cheap cheap! The hotrod shop has evolved, but has been enjoyed for a long time! e-rod
