Bafang bbshd on trek marlin 6 2022

Yeah it's tough. Trek's spec say a 1x max 34T. But for a BBS02, for the 12X needing an offset is 36T in a Lekkie. But Luna Doesn't sell Lekkie so had to go to another place. But I got mis-shipped 2 28T and the chain line isn't good. The other place doesn't have the 40T so ordered the 42T and we'll see if it fits. Just each time an order is placed, it's 2 days to get it out, and 5 days shipping. That's what I like about Luna Cycle. I can order, and they ship it quick. If I have preorder questions, I can call or write and get answer back. Or come in the forums. So much better here.

Thats a shame that a lekkie 42t chain ring wouldnt fit. Is it because of the dimple? Thanks

I guess the only option is that i get a trek marlin 5 2022 model or get a trek marlin 7 2021 model to fit a lekkie 36t or 42t. Tbh, the fastest id want to go is 25mph.

Yh. I know that the 2021/2022 frame is the same but the dimples position is different.

Any updates on the Trek Marlin 6 2022 conversion to the bbshd? I found a bike I might buy but this thread is causing concern. This would be my first ebike build. I am a mechanic of sorts by trade so I am not afraid of doing some alterations if necessary as long as it isn'ta complete hack job.

As far as you know, do the different Marlin variants us the same frame? I am looking at the M/L version of the Marlin 6. Did you have any major issues with the build? I am good with having to use an offset chain ring or even a spacer or two. I also don't have this bike in hand. I would have to buy it used and am not too sure how long it will be available to me.

The year could be important for the chain ring. I still don't have an absolute clear answer on the "dimple," or the bend in the frame chainstay of the different years. For 2022, I'm told by a tech on-the-road-dealer tech that for 2022 all the marlin's frames in that area are the same. And side by side they look identical between a Marlin 6, 7, and 8 in L and in M/L. They come with around a 30T. I chose a 28T then a 36T Lekkie. The specs on the Marlin 8 said up to a 34T. Now the only issue we ran into was the bottom bracket. Parts of the down tube were in the bottom bracket. Now we used a dremel to make room but here's a vid on youtube of a guy with another idea: Bafang Install issue: Motor not fitting your bottom bracket? - YouTube. The brake cut offs we thought would be easier than they were but it took some doing. And the shimano brake levels of a non Marlin 8 are easier than the sram brake levers. Everything else went together easily. It's a good choice of a bike for a build if you get the used Marlin.

Good info Bill B. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 2022 Marlin 6. I feel confident that I can make it work and have a quality build. It will probably be a month or so before I can get the Bafang kit. I will spend that time figuring out what I want to go with as far as motor.

Cool. If the BBSHD then get the 68mm-73mm (Standard) size. The 52v Luna Wolf V2 LG MJ1 13.5ah would fit the down tube of my Marlin 8. You can get a printout sample size to check it. But I used a rack and got the bigger battery 52v Luna DireWolf LG MJ1 21ah so it would last longer. I would spend the extra money and get this charger: 52V Advanced Luna 300W Ebike Charger. Now, you have no choice but you'll have to get this: Stock 46T Steel Chain Ring. You have to go to a different site and the biggest you can order is a Lekki 36T. Your gearing is still going to be a 36T to an 11T which will get you about 34 or 36 mph top end. Marlin 6 is a shimano Deore (nice setup) 46 tooth in the rear which is super low. You'll climb anything. Note with the BBS02 as well. The Marlin 6 has Tektro so get: Hydraulic and Disc Brake Sensors with Cut Off (Pair). Bafang Display DPC-07 is the free dsiplay. I've seen it, and it looks just ok. On my Marlin 8 I have this and I like it better: Luna DPC-18 Full Color Display. My Trek AL5 I have the 750C. Both are nice. It's just the DPC-18 is stock now. Last, on the throttle I used: Bafang BBSxx Universal Thumb Throttle. Luna is out of stock but I would get this: Gearsensor for Bafang Mid Drives. That's it. Good luck.

I don't want to skimp on the battery or its capacity. I do like the idea of the rear rack battery. Especially the ones that cage the battery and still give you a useful rack to use. One- it gives you a tail light. Two- to the untrained eye, it just looks like a rear rack and less like a gawdy battery pack wedged somewhere. It doesn't look like Lunacycle carries this type, so I do worry that their kit universally connects to some random rear rack battery pack I pick up. I have plenty of time to sort that out.

Everything else seems pretty cut and dry and I will take your advice. Thanks a ton!

What I did is put the Trek rack, their bag on the back and put the big battery in there.

The Marlin 8 has a 12 speed sram cassette. I thought the big 50T was too much of a bend so I limited it myself with the stop screw. Now it wouldn't jump off itself. But the next cog up was a 42T. It worked out fine. Now I have the 750 watt where as you're putting on the 1000 watt. Now if you put on the 36T lekkie sprocket like I did, you're going to find you can easily start the bike in a much higher cog that 1st. In fact, unless on a steep up hill, 1st is just too low. I think your Marlin 7 is a deore 10 speed. Which I think will be just fine.
