Luna is really low on parts or out of stock of a lot of items. I had a bad display and had to switch to another fix my bike. Is this due to supply chain issues and the economy? I have another supplier I can get Lekkie products but I like dealing with Luna for everything else. But they don't have stock for many of the products I would use.

Luna stock issues

I have not really needed much lately so I have not been looking that close at their stock levels. The little I have looked it seems like they are out of things but then get them in. Sometimes they sell out again and other times they don't. My guess is demand is still strong for most of the products they sell and the supply and logistics chain sucks so they are doing the best they can.
In 2019 a company like Luna was likely paying around $2000 to get a container full of parts and bikes from Shanghai to LA and that whole process took about 4 weeks give or take from the factory to their door. I just checked to make sure I had a realistic number as of 6/16 its $8,378. I never noticed before but when looking up that stat you can ship something LA to Shanghai for $1,236. There have been times its been well over $10k so that is one issue to deal with but the larger one assuming you can even get the product out of the factory is you really have no idea how long its going to take to your door. It used to be a week on either end and about 2 weeks on the water. For the last year or so you were lucky to get 3-4 weeks on either end and many of the ships are now 'slow steaming' so the trip can be 3-4 weeks too.
So we look at the process in 2019. Luna contacts the factory and places an order. Takes the factory 2 weeks to have the order ready to ship. Product takes a week to get from the factory and onto a ship. 2 weeks on the water. 1 more week to get off the ship and onto a truck to their door. Timetable and prices are about the same as the last several orders.
Now we do the same process for the same parts in 2022. Luna contacts the factory. Do they respond or are they on government mandated lockdown? IF they respond do they have the raw materials to produce the product? If they have the materials are they way backed up from being locked down? Did the price only double? Or did it go up maybe 10x? Or higher? If they still want to place the order and they can make the product in say 4-5 weeks is there a transport company available to get it to the port? Are they backed up or locked down? Cost? Is the port even open? Backed up? Once its on the boat anyone on the boat get sick and the whole boat and cargo stuck in quarantine for a few weeks? Once its in LA how many weeks does it take to get through customs and to an outside trucking company that is now paying more for just the diesel fuel than they get paid per mile for shipping.
Pretty much anything you do these days has gone from I know how much it will cost and how long it will take to it will cost more but I'm not sure how much more and I won't even guess how long its going to take. I don't even work directly with this end of things and its driving me insane. I can't imagine working directly with this stuff, talk about stress.
