My buddy ordered a new lectric xp 3.0 on tuesday afternoon and it was on the porch for lunch on saturday. 4 days to fulfillment- amazing, and the bike is ready to ride (sorta) in 10 min after unpacking. I have only spent 15 min on it since then so my first impressions are basic. It sure makes me LOVE my modded Eclipse!
What she got for $1240.00: folding frame ebike she can mount. The bike weighs 64# and supposedly 55nm torque thru the 48v 14ah battery with the controller delivering 20 amps max. The brakes work about as well as a single piston mechanical set up can but our replacement Zoom 4 piston sets are on the way. Better brakes a must have, imo. As soon as the DavidBrandNew Turtleneck stem arrives, it and bmx bars and brakes will be installed and her bike should be complete and ready for her to learn to ride.
The 3.0 isn't as nimble as my Eclipse in handling, but still pretty agile. Throttle response is quick, but maybe a bit jerky. I never use pas on my eclipse as I stay in 0 and add throttle to match my pedaling. Old motorcycle riders can hold a twister for hours. I hate the fact that the lectric bikes can't use throttle unless it's in at least pas 1. I am inexperienced with how the pas lurches the bike forward when the pedals move, and the lurch from the motor is pretty strong when the motor kicks in. I don't like it and hope she can learn to handle that and the lag of motor still pulling after you stop pedalling. A motorcycle rider would never design those features.
the xp 3.0 isn't the ultimate bike of bikes, but I think a great deal on a decently performing ebike that will bring smiles to very many average americans who wouldn't know which end of a wrench to hold. I believe that half of all bicycles sold in USA are purchased at wallymart. And with about the same amount of research and consideration as would fit in a 10 min coffee brake!
I think the lectric bike co is a bit over the top on their advertising and public approach, but I believe they are not JUST for profit, but actually want to put many people on electric bikes.
And that's a good thing.
