lectric xp 3.0 not a Luna but not junk

My buddy ordered a new lectric xp 3.0 on tuesday afternoon and it was on the porch for lunch on saturday. 4 days to fulfillment- amazing, and the bike is ready to ride (sorta) in 10 min after unpacking. I have only spent 15 min on it since then so my first impressions are basic. It sure makes me LOVE my modded Eclipse!

What she got for $1240.00: folding frame ebike she can mount. The bike weighs 64# and supposedly 55nm torque thru the 48v 14ah battery with the controller delivering 20 amps max. The brakes work about as well as a single piston mechanical set up can but our replacement Zoom 4 piston sets are on the way. Better brakes a must have, imo. As soon as the DavidBrandNew Turtleneck stem arrives, it and bmx bars and brakes will be installed and her bike should be complete and ready for her to learn to ride.

The 3.0 isn't as nimble as my Eclipse in handling, but still pretty agile. Throttle response is quick, but maybe a bit jerky. I never use pas on my eclipse as I stay in 0 and add throttle to match my pedaling. Old motorcycle riders can hold a twister for hours. I hate the fact that the lectric bikes can't use throttle unless it's in at least pas 1. I am inexperienced with how the pas lurches the bike forward when the pedals move, and the lurch from the motor is pretty strong when the motor kicks in. I don't like it and hope she can learn to handle that and the lag of motor still pulling after you stop pedalling. A motorcycle rider would never design those features.

the xp 3.0 isn't the ultimate bike of bikes, but I think a great deal on a decently performing ebike that will bring smiles to very many average americans who wouldn't know which end of a wrench to hold. I believe that half of all bicycles sold in USA are purchased at wallymart. And with about the same amount of research and consideration as would fit in a 10 min coffee brake!

I think the lectric bike co is a bit over the top on their advertising and public approach, but I believe they are not JUST for profit, but actually want to put many people on electric bikes.
    And that's a good thing.

The integrated 150# rack is nice. For brakes I'm quite comfortable using Avid BB7 cable brakes with big rotors and EBC metallic pads on my BBSHD.
It looks like the tradeoff is no rear suspension, and no belt drive. Maybe add a Tannus tire liner in the rear to smooth out the ride and avoid flats?
I looked at their site and saw a 2nd passenger seat option for that bike. More of an SUV than a sports bike. They do look like a serious value type vendor.

part of "over the top" is their name or company logo appear on the bike no less than 18 times! whew!

what I wanted to ask before the new brakes arrive is: what is the reason to have the left lever operate the front brake. I run mine the opposite like all the motorcycles I've ever owned. I'm tempted to rig her's up that way also, as she won't have anything to unlearn. Is there a legal type reason for left front? Is it some kind of safety issue I'm ignorant about? I will keep the safety cut offs rigged up for her bike tho. I don't know if that's also any legal issue, but for myself I installed brand new Maguras purposely without the switches.

      Laws for bicycles???

I think it's expected in the US for the front brake to be LH. In EU it may be different. In my own case the gripshifter is on the right, so the brake on the left works for me.I can throw downshifts while braking. On a single speed I don't see that it matters much. I think the theory was the weaker hand won't toss you over the handlebars if you're a total moron. Moto guys prefer it the other way. But that's because the clutch lever needed to be away from the throttle.
So in my case the throttle and front brake are on the left because the shifter is on the right.Opposite of moto setup.

Some countries the front comes on the right... in US bicycle laws are mostly state by state and never seen any statutes (and doubt there is) concerning which side the front is on....FWIW I've been moving mine to the "correct" side for many decades..usually first thing I do when I purchase a bike...

I remember when motorcycle shifters could be RH or LH. then it became law that they were LH. I found a thread on this that gets very interesting because there used to be no standards at all. Throttle, brakes and shifters were all over the place. Some of the reasons are interesting. Hand shifters, LH throttle on police Indians (the gun was on the right). I guess if you have a gun you don't need the front brake any more???

interesting thread, I've owned a couple of those bikes mentioned but only owned 1 at a time so there wasn't any switching between rides, and I just got used to the controls of the bike that was mine at the time. Missed a couple of shifts when I went from my first real bike , a bsa to my beloved snortin Norton, but didn't take long to appreciate the left side, funky 1 up and slam 3 down between the stoplights as I left a lot of newer bikes wondering what the hell was that old thing I can't catch up to?
Until the rice rockets took over the scramblers always finished first. Aaahhh- to to be 27 again

Just a follow up on lectric ebikes company.

My impressions are nothing but positive! If I had $$$ or was a stock investor I would be investing in them. I'm neither, but a happy ebike owner, and thrilled to be a Luna and an lectric ebike owner.

When the 3.0 arrived there was a pretty good ding right on the edge of the folder socket. It's ugly, noticeable, but small and won't really take a lot to fix. I took a couple pics, and emailed stating the facts, and that I could fix on my own and would they consider a discount on an accessory rear basket to compensate for my trouble. I would not send it back because of a hickey! I can't understand how it got damaged, they had the bike super packed, foam wrap protected, half a doz warning tags and 2 doz zip ties.

A couple hrs go by and I get an email from Jason, and they are very sorry for the damage but glad I am happy with the bike. Since I can take care of the ding myself, they are sending me the paint for for the repairs and a FREE rear basket for my trouble. !!!!

IT'S seven days since we placed the order for the bike last tuesday! INSTANT GRATIFICATION

NOW, wins every time for me! later sucks and before ain't real, it's always now

just like Luna these guys are NOW

I just don't get how anyone can buy an e-bike online.

How can you possibly tell if the bikes ergonomics fit you or if it handles nice or is wobbly and awkward?

This is funny, from the letric bike Google link

"The Lectric XP 3.0 is engineered with award-winning features that make it the most popular electric bike on the market. Own the road and shop today.

        $999.00 · ‎Free 3–8 day delivery · ‎In stock"

        "award winning features"

What awards did it "win" do they have like a special kind of e-bike olympics and lectric was the winner or did the marketing department just make that up ?

I bet 50 bucks someone just wrote that and there was no "award winning" what so ever.

Little discamer, I work part time in a bike shop and people wheel this junk in all the time and it gets frustrating talking to them but I have to be nice. Online I can be a wise ass and poke fun.

There is no comparison what so ever between that lame 'letric' and the Luna model. The Luna Version has a REAR SHOCK and that is a game changer with e-bikes not having every bump going up your spinal cord and causing fatigue on longer rides. The call shockless bikes a 'hard tail' for a reason .

I got an idea. How bout posting some pics of the bike you own and ride.

Maybe describe your riding style and why your bike would have been a better choice for her instead of the lectric 3.0 she just bought.

Her parameters: 56 yrs old non athletic, last rode a bicycle 40 yrs ago. 29" inseam, bad knees, and a bit heavy and out of shape.
intended riding: neighborhood streets, sidewalks, paved bike paths and rail trails, and bike needs to fold.

Can't wait to see your bike and to learn what a mistake we made.

Well the thing that just leaps out from those pictures is the suspension... the former is a hard tail and the latter suspended so really big difference there... former fork looks very iffy and latter looks like maybe closer to a "real" fork..

Anyway - different animals in that regard

Both of the above pictured bikes are sitting in my kitchen right now. I bought my Luna Eclipse online, after many hrs of research. The Eclipse platform had the features I needed in an ebike.
It did not have the performance I wanted in all components. I have spent again the original cost of 1600. to upgrade my Eclipse to suit me. shock, forks, hydraulic brakes, tires, fenders-etc.
is her stock lectric xp 3.0 supposed to perform as good as my Eclipse? Hell a stock Eclipse can't perform as well as mine. Am I supposed to think everyone else's ride sucks? and say so?

lectric HAS won some bs marketing awards, like most units sold, and blah blah and etc. participation trophy's anyone. All promo is hype. If you ask me their intended market is the retired rv set and the kind of owners who couldn't handle and wouldn't want more performance than one of their bikes offers. Nobody looking at Luna stuff is seriously getting themselves a lectric bike.

If my friend can master the performance of her new 3.0 I will be happy with that.

I believe it's way more important ( me 70 yrs seniority, mostly moto's) for a biker to be competent on whatever they ride.
How small, tight and slow can you ride figure 8's? can ya ride circles inside a parking space? emergency stops! My buddy's gonna learn to do so, and on the lectric 3.0! seeya onthe trails

          here's my ride
