    Sad Sad day

My friend and LBS owner perished in a fire in his shop early yesterday morning. He will surely be missed by many. He was a great guy and contributer to the community. He often helped the less fortunate keep their bikes on the road with used parts from his vast assortment . (for very cheap or sometimes for free!) Not a franchise store by any definition.
Happy trails Brad and we will meet you one day on that great trail in the sky!

Thoughts for Brad, you and the community.

Here's an article on the tragedy from Bicycle Retailer and Industry News: https://www.bicycleretailer.com/reta...p#.Y5iWPHZOm9c

The article said he was apparently living in the shop? Anyone know why? Sounds like he knew everyone but maybe people (especially the ones living in the apartments in the same building) didn't know he was living there otherwise someone would have gone looking for him sooner or told emergency responders to go look for him in the shop?

There are some news reports of fire code violations within the building - "inoperable smoke alarms, malfunctioning fire doors, and bypassed fire safety features". Also, "though the building’s sprinkler system passed inspection, the [bike shop] office is believed to have been retroactively fitted with sprinklers, which did not activate".

The shop owner, Brad White, had just recently taken in a puppy dog that also died in the fire.

In Miami they arrested 100 people for fake aircraft parts, counterfeit airworthiness certificates, with forged FAA inspector signatures. They were selling these parts all over the world.Air Force 1 had some. This was uncovered when the tail came off of a Turboprop in Holland.
