    Inexpense fat tire bike recommendations?

Snow is on the way. Are there any inexpensive fat tire bikes out there that are good ebike candidates?

If you're looking for new, check out bikesdirect.com Both the Gravity Bulleye Monster and Boris X5 have been built up. Both under $600.00

I'm not sure what qualifies as inexpensive, but my Motobecane Sturgis Bullet is holding up great. A little over 1K.

Something in the $500-700 range that would take a mid-drive, new or used. I figure for that price the components won't be all that good, up I can up grade them.

The Electra Townie 7 is a great street/ maintained trail big tire bike that should be a good conversion. It sells for the price range youu mentioned.

The Deadeye Monster looks interesting for $400. Add a 3 speed hub, bbs02 and up grade the brakes.

If you think you could be happy with a 3-inch tire, the mongoose terrex hardtail from Walmart might work for around $160. If it is not in stock, you can order it.

Once you get it running, it benefits from several upgrades whenever you save up some extra cash. It has a front disc brake, and I would swap-in a larger diameter disc, and also upgrade to hydraulics ($120 from Luna?) And also Thudbuster seat (or Suntour NCX).

What is your take on Bikes Direct? I was planning on upgrading my existing bike with mid drive but my current bike doesn't have disc brakes and I would prefer a fat tire. Looking to get everything done for $1200-$1500 including mid drive and battery.

The 2017 model has 4" tires and 80mm rims. I figured most of the components would be swapped out.

I just ordered the Deadeye Monster on Bikes Direct for $400 including shipping. This is the single speed.

Harold if you haven't already ordered then go for the BBSHD instead of the BBS02 the extra $$ is worth it.

Have you tried both mid drives? I haven't ordered yet. The bike arrives on Saturday, along with the 3 speed hub. Ordering the mid drive is a few weeks out.

Harold see this post by Eric Luna: http://www.electricbike.com/forum/fo...the-extra-cost

                      • The BBSHD was completely redesigned, almost every part is diffrent.
                      • The BBSHD uses much beefier components, and a beefier controller."

Thanks, it looks like the BBSHD with the 120mm bb is the way to go.

If your fatbike bottom bracket is 100mm then the best deal for you is the black friday $1099. Can't find a better deal than this.

I have enough parts left over from the first kit, that it's less expensive to piece the parts for this build. The mighty mini battery has been working out great, so I would go with that one again. The bike arrived Saturday, got it together with no issues. I'm wating for Luna to restock the Shimano E disk brake kit. Also wating for the Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub.
