Looking for builders looking to make $$$ installing kits

    Hi Gang,

I want to compile a list of DIY builders who are available to build kits or do repairs for new ebikers in their area.

We will compile a list here: https://electricbike.com/forum/forum...-yourself-here

Many different bicycle frames like my Cannondale require custom 3d printed mounts for the brake and speed sensors, not to mention the motor brace. Anybody building kit bikes will need to think out of the box as there will be as many needed solutions as there are frames.

I think technicians at West Palm Beach would want to consider your options. Could you kindly contact.

I was thinking about this today. I was thinking how many people would be lost when it came to changing parts or installing new ones. And Moraflex, 3D printing is great for prototyping but you need a machine shop to fabricate durable parts. Count me in. I'm close to NYC and everyone that sees my bike is blown away. Installing mid drive kits would be a breeze and it just so happens I have a machine shop with a CNC mill.
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave in a well preserved body, but to slide in sideways screaming "Holy shit! What a ride!"

Just to reinforce the validity of this post .. I'm a new e biker myself and plan on purchasing a bike online in the next couple of weeks .. At 67 I find it difficult to perform certain tasks and this is one
of them .. I would like to shout out to someone with the skills necessary to put together an online e bike purchase (Sur-Ron or Juiced Bikes Hyper Scrambler) that lives in the Durham/Chapel Hill
area of North Caroline .. Thanks

I recently just moved from Jacksonville to California. I would've helped you. There is a LBS in Jacksonvilled called the Bicycle Shop. Very original I know... they recently adopted some Ebikes, a few mid drives too. I used them a few times to straighten a wheel and lace up an IGH for my mid drive bike. They have a few technicians now. 2 hours away but they can help if you can't find anything local.

Once again, I was at a big fly-in, with 80 or 90 other planes, and I was the only one there with a capable ebike! These people build airplanes, some from scratch, and also heavily modify and restore planes, you'd think a folding ebike like my Montague/BBSHD wouldn't intimidate them. Some of these people (but not all, you'd be surprised how poor a lot of pilots are) have loads of dough, and yes it has occurred to me to buy a dozen Montagues, a dozen Rohloff hubs, and a dozen BBSHD kits with batteries and put them up for sale at one of these events. I could probably sell them all, but I'll leave that to someone else, I just enjoy the freedom to explore the near by country and not being stuck at the airstrip, so I guess I'mm setting a good example. anyway of whats possible.

Does anybody understand what liabilities a kit assembler we'll be at risk for, if we do this? I'm worried about getting sued when someone is hurt, and their insurance sues everybody who touched the ebike. Would there be an affordable, practical way to limit this risk? Some kind of insurance or.....?

I'd love to do this, and am about to retire my day job so can, but I don't want to risk my house!

You're assumption on liability is correct and everyone in the food chain is subject to legal action. Therefore it is important to take out a 1 million dollar product liability policy and breath a little easier. These policy's are inexpensive and your current home insurance carrier may have one available. I have a million dollar policy for 96.00 per month with State Farm. However I also bundle all my vehicle insurance and workman's comp with State Farm as well so I may be seeing a break.

Thanks. I'll ask my agent about that. Appreciate the pointers.

I spoke with my agent. As I understand, the home policy wouldn't cover a business for me, but he's going to set me up to talk to a specialty company who may have a product to address this liability.

He thought a LLC or other legal entity would be needed to limit liability with respect to personal assets, too, as I understand. He pointed out these are questions for a lawyer, more than a homeowner's insurance agent. I have to agree.

Anyway it wasn't an easy answer for me.

I'd be willing to help folks as I do now, but can't do it for money, yet, anyway.

An LLC sounds like a paperwork headache I don't want to deal with right now :)

"And Moraflex, 3D printing is great for prototyping but you need a machine shop to fabricate durable parts" Lets look at this statement. 3D printing with PLA, PVA or ABS plastics will render a durable part for most applications on the bike. I have PLA parts on my bike for the past three years without failure. Parts that require tolerance to stress will require billet aluminum CNC like a custom motor mount bracket or a battery platform, both of which I have also installed. The bottom line is both methods of custom fabrication are required because all bikes are different in geometry and tubing shape. We even had to heat up and form a cavity in the battery case in order for it to fit in the frame on a rear shock 29er. Fun Fun Fun.

OK, I decided I don't want to build bikes at home (yet, anyway) since I didn't find an insurance option I liked, but I'm willing to assist others, with their Luna builds.

I'm not a commercial shop; I'm a recently retired Detroit EV/Hybrid vehicle engineer who could assist from my little home shop, or on the nearby trails. I would enjoy helping others create or tune their own ebikes.

I am in Rochester, MI area.

                  What I can do:
                  • I am willing and able to help with programming if folks have Luna builds or bikes in my area, and want assistance with that.
                    • I have the Luna programmer, so BBSHD for sure; it will do BBS02 as well, right?
                    • Laptop/cables, too.
                  • I could provide local support for hardware issues. Do hardware swaps for diagnosis, try a known good battery, swap a warranty controller in, stuff like that.

                  Who, how, and where:
                  • I am willing to help for folks who can come to my home. I'd want some personal interaction with each person, first, to try to make sure there not angry nutcase customers, I guess? If I'm going to be having them to my house, at least....
                    • We could meet at a local bike trail, instead? Much more difficult for any repairs, all the tools and parts are in my shop. But for programming it's a good answer I think.
                  • I would consider making 'house calls' for specific cases within an hour's drive or so, too.

Luna is welcome follow up with me as a candidate to provide ebiker support in my area, if you like.

Email and phone are on file as customer, Paxtana knows who I am. Text if you want. Email might be a while, I'm retired, ya know!

Like JPLabs I'm not interested in building as a business but enjoy helping others and aside from building my own BBSHD have helped three other folks with their BBSHD builds and also own a bafang hub bike

I have a shop that's presently in the Tempe, AZ area near I-10 and 60 and is bike accessible by the Western Canal multi-use path (I will likely relocate more towards Chandler/Gilbert later this year and expand the space) - I share the shop with an associate for our businesses and neither of us are doing ebikes as a business - i.e. it's *not* an ebike (or bike) shop but a convenient place to meet and where there are tools and some space (sometimes more sometimes less)

My core business is research and development consulting with troubleshooting expertise, I've been an electrical and systems engineer before going on my own - I'm not retired so availability fluctuates, PM me here if interested

Just got possession of my new shop over near Arizona Ave (Country Club) and Elliot in Chandler that abuts the Western Canal multi-use path

Definitely a corner reserved for bikes =]

Hello anyone, I just finished my 17th bike using Luna and Bafang BBS02's. I don't charge for my services, just want everyone to ride more. I live in a small town in NH that has a lot of hills, now we have a riding group that goes out every Sunday with our Ebikes.

I'm currently looking at two Electra Townies to convert in the coming month. One is straight forward and should be no problem, but the other one has a rear coaster brake. Once I install the BBS02 the coaster brake is no longer viable. My friend does have a disk brakes in front, will that be sufficient to stop the bike?

Has anyone done a coaster brake conversion with a BBS02. Can't seem to find anything on this subject. Can someone help me out here. Thank you in advance.

I would also be interested in installing more BBS02, maybe there is a market for this.
