    Fat Bike with Bafang Ultra Drive 1000 watt motor

    I just placed an order for a fat bike with the Bafang Ultra Drive from China. Specs as quoted:

    1. Battery: 48V 17.5Ah LG Li-ion battery;
    2. Motor: Mid drive system bafang motor MAX 48V 1000W;
    3.Wheels: Spoked wheels;
    4. Max. speed: 50+km/h; (31mph+, Mach 0.04 per conversion calcuator)
    5. Range: 70km(pedal assistant);
    6. Charging time: 5 hours, 100-240V smart charger;
    7. Material: aluminum alloy;
    8. Display: LCD48V Bafang brand;
    9. Tire: 26"x4.0 KENDA tyre;
    10.Rear derailleur outer 7 speed Shimano
    11.Brake: F/R disc brake
    12.add a front LED light and a set of fender
    13. Front suspension only

    $1,290
    $ 150 sea freight to Chicago
    $1,440

    There will be additional fees once the bike gets to Chicago, will find out what they are when it gets here, as with the trike.

    Photo is what bike is supposed to look like, black with white rims. If it turns out to be a good setup after testing it for a while, I am considering mounting lights & siren, then market it to police departments.

    Here is page with a video of LEDs in use. Note the red/blue combo. Mount one on front, one rear. I figured out how to nearly replicate the aussie siren from Mad Max with a police lights android app and external weather proof speaker. The existing sirens for police bikes are all pathetically cheezy.

    ----------------------
    UPDATE - Supplier indicated bike will be 9 speed, not 7 speed.

    Was that from Frey in China?

      Yep, more and more integrated Bafang mid drives on the way!

      Main advantage I can visualize is improved ground clearance.

      Main disadvantage you're stuck with a proprietary bike frame in limited sizes and perhaps non-standard components?

        The other advantage (and maybe the biggest?) is that I believe that motor has a torque sensor.

          Company is called Changzhou Aimos. The price can vary widely by supplier depending on the specs. One supplier claimed to have better front suspension, hydraulic brakes and better hubs. They said they could lower the price by putting cheaper components on.

          Aimos was the only company that consistently said bike has the 1000 watt Ultra drive. Other quotes where for lower watt motors, then suppliers would say they could upgrade to 1000 watt. That makes me suspicious, as the Bafang Ultra Drive 1000 watt motor has a different case than the lower wattage's, so it requires a different "bottom bracket".

          It will be 2-3 months before I get the bike. When it is here I will post details.

          I cannot find a link for a Frey non-suspension bike. Here are a few other links for comparisons:

          Actually, if you look at the Bafang site (below), Both the 350W Max and the 1000W Ultra list the same part number for the mount (G330 below).
          So it looks like they do use the same mounting case.

            Here are the dimensions of the motors. Looking at the design drawing, the cases look physically different, yet both pages do show the same mounting plate. Maybe the cases are different, but bolt patterns are the same? I did see a couple other new mid drive models on the site with other dimensions. Some pages say "Pedal Sensor - speed and torque integrated", others do not.

            Some have CB at the end of the model number, I am speculating the motors are for Coaster Brake bike. The only difference in the pages are listing for Brake Type - CB

            The supplier I bought the trike from has bikes with the new 250 - 350 watt drives. He told me the 1000 watt motor will not fit, that it takes a different mounting plate, and they have no current plans to build a bike for the 1000 watt ultra drive.

            I am waiting for supplier to reply about a folding 20" bike with 350 watt motor. If I am able to get it, I will have both types to compare. It will likely be November before the bikes are here though.

              The motors can have different sizes, yet share the same mounting spine.
              Given the Bafang site only shows a single Mounting part in the accessories, it does support that theory, but obviously one will only be 100% sure when having the opportunity to try it :)

                        I bought my Bafang BBS02 equipped Fat Bike from Biktrix a couple of years ago and the bike and their service have been great. I'm really tempted to get this latest version

                          Looks like the same bike I ordered direct from China with upgrades and different rims. With shipping I estimate total cost on mine will be about $1,600.

                        Bike has not shipped yet. Manufacturer said they received a large order for full suspension bikes, so they added my build to their order and upgraded mine to full suspension no extra charge.

                          I'm also very interested to hear about the bike. quality, etc.

                          ..I still don't know how they can price this complete bike so cheaply (bike, tires, battery, motor, etc)
                          The bafang ultra motor + 48V 17.5Ah battery alone from lunacycle (who's prices are low) would cost $1340 !
