    Electric bike insurance

I had a nasty shock a few days ago when I renewed my house insurance. The insurer told me that my electric bike was uninsurable through them. I explained that it was limited to 15mph etc. But they said that if I had to recharge a battery they would not insure my bike and thus that when I was riding it I had no third party insurance! I went to another insurance company and got the same response. So I went to the showroom from where I bought the electric bike - they told me that nobody had ever raised this as a problem but that they would look into it as a matter of urgency and get back to me after having a talk with the auto insurance company.
I am still waiting! However, I would urge everyone who rides an electric bike to check their insurance.

It's not just they won't insure the bike - some won't insure your house for fires because of the battery concerns

You might want to look into Markel or Velosurance.

Looks like he is in Toronto
In BC the bike needs to be less than 500w and a whole mess of other conditions https://www.icbc.com/vehicle-registr...ric-bikes.aspx
I will have to look at my house insurance....
