    A wild pbreezy appeared!

    Hello/hola/привет/Gruß Dich!

I am new (obviously) and I wanted offer salutations to all. I’m riding a BBS02B with a Motobecane Cross Uno wrapped around it, and also a meat-powered road bike for 90% of my transportation needs. Still trying to make it to “car-free,” but I got like ten kids and zero bakfiets. Someday…

If I can figure out how to forum I’d love to share some bike pics, and dive headlong into some of my ebike musings.

I’m also the founder of La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Santa Vuelta (the Church of Our Lady of the Holy Ride) which is like a halfway house for bikes in San Diego. I collect unwanted bikes, refurbish them, and give them away to people who can’t afford a new one. But that’s not why I’m here. Just throwing that out there.

Welcome and that is awesome that you fix up bikes for others. Getting around is a huge benefit for those trying to find their way. Is bike theft less of a problem now that eBikes are gaining popularity? My town is not a big bike rider so I cant tell. Its been decades since I last checked out the police auction. But it used to be that bikes not chained down would quickly vanish. I chased down a bike thief long ago. A kids 20 inch rally bike was swiped by a thug after the kid walked into a store. Thug rode around the block and tossed the bike into a waiting pickup truck full of junk probably all stolen. Blocked the truck off and hauled the bike out of the pickup as the BIG kid was running to get his bike. Everybody is armed now so I won't be doing that again. The thugs in the truck just watched me inaction. The big kid seemed to know the thug and said he would deal with him his way. Back in the days before cell phones.

Thanks! I can’t say for sure if theft is up or down overall; San Diego is a sprawl and the crime rate changes every ten blocks so it’s hard to keep track… I mainly deal in bikes that have been in garages or leaning on the side of houses for years. Lots of like new kids’ bikes that have been grown out of, and lots and lots of black widow spiders (lactrodectus mactans) under the saddles and fenders.
