Hello All -- Looking for a battery recommendation - Have a Yuba mundo - plan on purchasing the Bafang BBSHD 750w motor - what is a recommended battery? I use the Yuba for errands - 10-15miles trips - I live up a steep hill ( 14%) that is about .25 mile.. occasionally may use the YUBA as a commuter bike - 32 miles round trip ( can charge it at work)
Appreciate the advice.

I would look for 48V 24Ah for that and be sure and get the 4A. charger. 20Ah might be OK, but that's not a bike you will want to pedal unpowered. 21700 cells are more common in that rating than 18650. There may be triangle bag packs uo to 30Ah but they usuually don't lock to the bike.
For tires I would look at Schwalbe Pickup in 2.35". Does yours have disc brakes? A cargo bike and a hill will need some serious brakes.
Does that have internal cable routing for the rear brake, or exposed? Cable housing stops for disc, or just for rim brakes?Last edited by Retrorockit; 09-04-2023, 06:21 AM.

You don't need to go too many miles which is good but you also didn't say what sort of weight will normally be carried and at what speeds. Only going 15 miles you may get away with the smaller batteries in the 12-14 ah range but if you want to go faster than say 13 mph and are looking at a 300+ pound rig that may be cutting things close range wise. The bigger packs that seem to start around 17ah may be a better option. With a cargo bike you also have many more mounting options than regular bikes have so you have more options as far as shapes and sizes. Grin in Canada has some flat packs that seem like they could be useful on a cargo bike.
A normal bike with a normal rider pedaling some and going normal bike speeds I like to use 2 miles per ah as a rough estimate for range. You add weight, speed, and hills some people don't get 1 mile per ah. A light rider on a light bike pedaling away at 13 mph on a rails to trails trail (flat and not much stop and go) may get 4 miles per ah. As they say your mileage may vary.......
