Hello everyone, I'm so glad to be here. I definitely have the Ebike fever and I haven't even ridden my build yet. I've purchased and already received my BBSHD (hotrod programmed) along with the Luna Eclipse 48 tooth chain-ring and Luna's own 52v 17.5ah triangle battery pack. I plan on installing this setup on my Specialized Rockhopper Comp hardtail but I can already see I may have made a mistake with some of my purchases.
#1 - My bottom bracket is 73mm and I ordered the BBSHD from Luna for the standard or smallest size of 68mm-73mm. Is it necessary or vital to return it and instead get the mid-size BBSHD of 73mm-110mm?
#2 - I've taken and installed the motor without tightening into place at all. My first issue is that the super nice looking and expensive ( also allows fastest speed I understand) Luna Eclipse chain-ring I bought won't install onto the motor face without also making full contact with the metal chain-guard. I understand when I actually install it I could use the 3mm spacer to give me some clearance back away from the chain-guard. My question is will this alter the chain-line enough that I won't be able to shift thru all 9 gears? Would ordering the 73mm-110mm provide any solution to the chain-ring/chain-guard clearance issue and/or will this also alter the chain-line as well? Would it benefit me to buy a chain-ring with less teeth (smaller diameter to avoid chain-guard flare)?
I'll get some pictures taken with the motor in so as to have a visual on what's going on. Thanks in advance for any input my friends.
