Be sure to pay attention to waterproofing and protecting connections. Snow melts and shorts out connectors!

I'll try to make 1 post at the end of winter to discuss what I found unless I have a Cato then I'll post something early. If your new to winter riding the one thing I have found over the years especially in the snow you have to periodically run the brakes especially the back one to heat them up if not they will freeze up and when you need them they won't work.

Thanks buddy! I'm just wishing that yesterday I'd packed some dielectric grease around the butt splice crimps for the xt-90 connector I attached to the motor side of my BBSHD. The two layers of shrink tubing I used on the splices now impedes me from applying the grease to the splice. Keep us updated on how the battery performs in this winter. Thanks again!

I put dielectric grease on all my connections brakes, display, throttle, battery, and anything else that plugs together. As far as your other questions I'm new with ebike's also I've only owned this bbs02 for about 3 months so I really am going in to this winter blind. If you have questions on winter bicycling I have a lot of knowledge there but the electric part I just hope I figure it out before it leaves me stranded.

I'm a bit of a newbie but I've used dielectric grease before when installing automotive blinker bulbs. Would I want to apply that to the insides of the battery (xt-90?) and harness (motor harness to lets say display and throttle) connectors? Also would riding in these temps destroy the battery or cause other problems prematurely?

I'm using a lot of dielectric grease on all my connections and the rest is trial and error this is my first winter commuting with an ebike I've been a bicycle commuter for 8 years so I know road salt on a regular bike is horrible. So this year outside of dielectric grease I'm not treating anything else so I can see where the salt gets in and how bad then I'll seal better next year. I wish I could be more help.

Hey Unhung...I've just recently assembled my BBSHD build and it happens to be complete while it is 6 degrees Fahrenheit here in Kansas City at the moment. My question for you being a resident of Iowa is...Would there be any extra precautions that I would want to take if I take my bike out for its first ride in this weather? I purchased Luna's 52v 17.5ah triangle battery.Last edited by Grendelssen; 01-01-2018, 12:50 PM.

The Giant NRS is a horrible full suspension bike that's why it's my winter bike I'm ok with the road salt destroying it. I've been an avid winter cyclist for many years so after every ride the name of the game is clean and oil the chain if not you'll wake up to a pile of rust. Speaking of road salt it's going to be interesting to see how long the motor lasts in these conditions.

I still have an old Giant NRS. Affectionately referred to as 'no real suspension'.

These pictures remind me how much i miss iowa. Looks like you have cured any motor overheat problems for now. Watch out for salt on chain and drive train.

Hello from........Iowa
I'm new to the ebiking world bought my bbs02 in August 2017 I first installed it on a surley karate monkey as my daily commuter put about 1500 miles on it so far with zero issues. Now that the snow started flying I moved it to an old giant nrs xtc full suspension I have about 150 miles on it with this set up and the only thing I have to say is wow every time I ride my smile gets bigger. We just got about 8 inches of snow and with out the motor I wouldn't be able to ride with it I got to go out and enjoy it at a good rate of speed attached are a couple of pictures of my giant build2 PhotosTags: None
