I like long walks on the beach, drinking beer in the rain...wait, wrong forums, sorry about that. I'm Creep, I'm new, and I'm building an E-bike to get to and from work. I'm building on an '08 Specialized XC Comp, probably a mid drive, and I'm looking forwards to not having to rely on public transportation.

I DO like drinking beer in the rain, though. We have plenty of both here in Oregon, and one really helps dealing with the other.

Welcome Creep, you should be able to put a battery inside the triangle on that bike and it'll likely be a great bike to put a mid-drive on. You thinking of putting a BBSHD on it?

What kind of elevation changes on your commute? Makes a difference to plan the build.
And wow I like drinking beer in the rain, too. Also, not in the rain.

Welcome! I'm also from Oregon, like drinking (good) beer, rain or shine, and I'm about to build my 1st e-bike. Now if Luna would get 52v batteries back in stock, I'd drink to that!

I AM leaning towards a BBSHD. As for elevation, the change is less than 100 feet in 4 miles, with no significant hills to climb. I do have to carry it up a flight of stairs when I get home, though.

In walk mode it'll easily walk up stairs! But won't clean up carpets after itself.
HD is probably best choice, just for it's improvements and durability over the 02.
I'd choose a larger front sproket than default for higher speed/cadence on flats.
