My brother was riding his bike (for quite a while) with a damaged belt, and it caused the front pulley on his belt drive to wear the teeth to a sharp point. This causes the belt to slip when you take off or need extra torque to get up a big hill. I am trying to source another front pulley that is undamaged. See Pic:
