The AK in the UK reference was for a guy named Andy Kirby over across the pond in the UK who builds up e-bikes and rides fast.

I agree. When I go 30+mph it's om the road just to keep up with traffic. Everywhere else I just ride the speed a decent cyclist can go.Headwinds, hills, distances, hot weather are all handled by the motor. Crossing large intersections I use full throttle.Again just to keep up with traffic.

I get 36mph om my 48V. BBSHD bike with 11-50 gearing and 26x2.15 tires. I'm 67 years old so it's almost all motor. So it seems about right for a BBSHD.Last edited by Retrorockit; 06-19-2021, 08:03 PM.

This past Tuesday two of the younger guys in the shop did some speed tests on my Santa Cruz Nomad, BBSHD. It has a 2.4 X 26 rear tire/wheel setup and 11-50T cassette. I set my programming primarily for off road trail, but one of the guys got a 40.8 mph on flat pavement. The bike is freakin' heavy with a dual crown fork (coil spring) and a coil rear shock and 2.8 DH front tire. Battery is a 52V, 17.5AH. I thought that was a decent top speed for this bike even though it's not what I built this bike for.

Watching the video closely and zooming in, it appears he cant hit faster than 30 mph with just the throttle. Then add the noisy gear in the motor, the wind noise, and the crappy quality video from the GoPro Hero I think it looks faster than it really is....

Apparently this bike has the same Bafang motor and uses less wattage than the X1 with Ludicrous mode. But for some reason our bikes do 25mph and this bike does over 36 MPH. In the video he claims he can hit 50 mph down hill. I would suspect that to be easily true because I can hit over 40 mph on the X1 down hill which is only 15 mph over the 25 gearing limit. Thus if the gearing limit on the Ex is providing 36 mph max, 15 mph over down hill is 51 mph.
I was told that the 25 MPH limit on the X1 is because of front chain ring gearing. So if we change our gearing we can hit this same speed or faster?
